In memory of John & Katherine Beinschrott
God is literally a Spirit and has no hands or feet like us; however, the "hand of God" is a frequently used phrase in the Bible, The figure of speech symbolizes God's sovereign power over all things in the universe.
Born in Arad, Hungary on October 3, 1886, John Beinschrott read and spoke six languages. After serving his two-year mandatory term in the Hungarian Army, he joined the regular army. He became a member of the King’s Guard and fought in the Russo-Japanese War. In 1912 he married Katherine (Katie) Wagner who was Pastry Cook for the Hapsburg family of Austria. With talk of war in Europe and talk against the U.S. by the army, the young couple decided to immigrate to the U.S. They slipped through five country borders to Denmark where they boarded ship for Baltimore, MD. The ship was ordered to return to Denmark but the captain announced they had just crossed into international waters. Mr. Beinschrott worked in a brewery in Harrisburg, PA earning his Master Brewers Pin and License. The Beinschrotts became naturalized citizens in 1920 and later moved to Lakewood, NJ where they began a chicken farm and owned some vacation cabins. In 1954, the Beinschrotts moved to Davisville, FL to be near the Tichis who had moved there earlier. Mr. Beinschrott had been given a short time to live. Mrs. Beinschrott died December 17, 1961 and shortly thereafter Mr. Beinschrott began attending First Presbyterian Church with their cousin, Ruth Tichi Godwin, and her husband, Vonzie. Mr. Beinschrott joined the church on February 2, 1964 by letter from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakewood, NJ. He died December 4, 1976. The Tichi-Godwin families gave this window in their memory. Ruth and Vonzie Godwin joined FPC on April 18, 1954 and were very active in the church during their tenure, Their son, John, and his wife, Deborah, are members of FPC.
