In memory of Mr. & Mrs. W. R. Lackey
The manger was a feeding trough which barn animals fed from and Jesus slept in after his birth. The manger represents the humility of abject poverty that Jesus subjected himself to in becoming human, The Christmas star appeared n the sky before Jesus was born and led certain wise men from the East to find the newly born infant Jesus so they could honor and worship him.
Aland grant brought the family of William Randolph A Lackey from Virginia to north Baldwin County. They settled in Stockton, Alabama where he married Florence E. Cattrett who was born in 1883 in the Stockton area.
Born in 1874, Mr. Lackey was a farmer and timberman; he also owned timberland in the Mobile River Delta and was a part owner of Q tug boat named the “Eleanor Mae” which hauled freight from Mobile to Stockton, prior to the construction of the Mobile Bay Causeway. Mr. Lackey was a Baldwin County Commissioner during the 1920’s or early 1930’s. Mrs. Lackey was a homemaker.
Two daughters, Pearl who was born in 1902 and Letha who was born in 1906, were reared in Stockton where the family were members of Stockton Presbyterian Church, After Pearl married H. C. Williams of Atmore and Letha married Alfred Pellar Webb, Jr. of Atmore, Mr. and Mrs. Lackey bought a home on South Pensacola Avenue where the entire family lived. Mr. Lackey died in 1940 and Mrs. Lackey died in 1971. They are buried in the Stockton Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Williams gave this window in their memory. Mrs. Williams joined First Presbyterian Church by letter from Stockton Presbyterian Church on October 18, 1953 and Mr. Williams joined by reaffirmation of faith on June 4, 1961 Mrs. Williams died in 1984 and Mr. Williams, who was born in 1908, died in 1955.
